 How we work

Do you charge for initial discussions?

No. Theresa is always happy to consider and explore new projects over a telephone call or email exchange and, if both parties feel it would be of interest and appropriate to proceed, then an initial meeting could be arranged. If the outcome of the meeting is an invitation to submit a formal proposal for consultancy then fees would only be charged once that proposal and its terms had been agreed.

How much does the consultancy cost?

Theresa charges a daily rate for work undertaken after a proposal has been agreed. This includes the time of her assistant, so that those tasks which can be undertaken by her (for example, desk research, meeting arrangements and administrative support) are not undertaken by Theresa or charged at her rate.

However where there is a long term commitment, for example for regular monitoring or mentoring support, then a special arrangement might be negotiated.

VAT will also be added to invoices.

How long might the consultancy take?

This depends entirely on the nature of the assignment and level of readiness of the organisation.  Theresa will only take on a project if the institution, including Board and senior management, is fully committed to the investment and the work involved. The level of expectation and the timescale must be clear and mutually acceptable. Equally importantly, Theresa must have sufficient time available to commit to it fully.

Do you only work with large institutions?

Theresa works with organisations of all shapes and sizes. They have included major national institutions and start-up charities. Click here to get a flavour of the range of clients she has worked with.

Why would you choose to work with us?

Theresa chooses projects to work on that are:

  • Inspired by a passionate commitment to the institutional vision and mission
  • Where the board and senior management of the organisation is fully committed to the project and process
  • Feasible, achievable and challenging
  • Of personal relevance because of shared interests and values
  • Appropriate to her experience and expertise

An initial meeting with the people involved will establish whether Theresa is the right person to work with you. If not, she may be able to refer you to one of her Associates in the Philanthropy Advisory Network or suggest alternative advisors or strategies.

Can I contact you without an introduction?

Yes of course. It might be helpful if you read this section first. You will find email and telephone contacts for Theresa on the contacts page.

What if we change our ideas part way through the project?

Many projects change as they develop. Indeed Theresa always advises that regular meetings to review progress and the implications of findings to date are built into the work schedule. While very conscious of the need to avoid "scope creep" it is essential that all involved are open-minded about the project outcome. It may be that an unanticipated opportunity or constraint may arise and therefore it will be important to review the brief and work in progress at periodic intervals.

Who are your associates and when do you involve them?

Do you know someone else who might help me?

If you contact Theresa and she is unable to help you she will do her best to direct you to an Associate or organisation that might be available at a more appropriate time for you or otherwise be better suited to your needs.
